Welcome to RANZCO’s 57th Congress in Auckland!
Nau mai, haere mai ki Tāmaki Makaurau.
Welcome to Auckland.
New Zealand’s “City of Sails” is thrilled to welcome you and RANZCO’s 57th Congress to our home, a place where natural beauty and urban vibes meet in stunning harmony. Nestling in a field of volcanic cones, Tāmaki Makaurau is also home to a thriving art and culinary scene. To north and south Auckland’s city and suburbs lap the waters of the Waitematā and Manukau harbours, while westward the Waitākere Ranges, cloaked in ancient rainforest, stand between city and wild west coast surf. In the east are the sheltered beaches and island sanctuaries of the Hauraki Gulf, where some of Aotearoa’s rarest fauna may still be found in the wild. Tāmaki Makaurau is rich in Māori history and alive with Pacific and global cultures.
Close to the convention centre, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki possesses arguably the finest collection of New Zealand art, as well as works by European masters including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Henri Matisse, while the next hill over is the iconic War Memorial Museum, home to pre-eminent Māori and Pacific collections, significant natural history resources and major social and military history collections. The CBD is surrounded by an eclectic range of urban villages including chic Parnell, the many restaurants of Ponsonby and, a 10 minute ferry ride away, maritime Devonport, while day trips are possible to some of New Zealand’s most iconic locations, including Waiheke Island, home of a thriving wine industry, Hobbiton of ‘Lord of the Rings’ fame as well as the stunning geothermal wonders of Rotorua and the Central North Island.
Our dynamic lineup includes distinguished Keynote Speakers from Australia, India, United Kingdom, United States and Turkey, ensuring a global perspective on the latest advancements in ophthalmology. This year’s Congress will feature our esteemed Named Lectures, honouring the legacies of Dame Ida Mann, Sir Norman Gregg, Fred Hollows, and the Council Lecture. Each lecture will be complemented by specialised Update Lectures across Cataract, Glaucoma, Neuro-ophthalmology, Refractive and Retina, presented by leading experts:

We hope that you take back lasting memories of Auckland’s stunning scenery, cuisine, culture, and perhaps take the opportunity to enjoy easy half day or day trips to local islands, forests and historic precincts, or travel further afield and explore New Zealand’s mountains, lakes, national parks and glaciers.
nō reira, nau main, haere main, whakatau mai.

We acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to their Elders past, present and emerging. In recognition that we are a bi-national College, we also acknowledge the Rangatiratanga of Māori as Tangata Whenua and Treaty of Waitangi partners in Aotearoa New Zealand.
