The below awards and prizes will be offered at the RANZCO 2026 Congress in Auckland:

Best Papers (Gerard Crock and John Parr Awards)

The Best Paper session will be held on Sunday 8 November from 8:00am – 9:30am at the New Zealand International Convention Centre.

The Gerard Crock Award will be given to the best paper presented by a RANZCO Fellow (of any year) or Australian/New Zealand Scientist (post PhD). The John Parr Award will be given to the best paper presented by a Trainee.

Both winners will each receive a $1,000 Visa gift card, certificate and ribbon.

The runners up will each receive a certificate.

Best Poster and Film Awards

The Best International Paper Award will given to the best paper presented by an international author.

The winner will receive $350 Visa gift card, certificate and ribbon.

Best Poster and Film Awards

The Poster and Film Festival will be held on Sunday 8 November from 5:00pm – 6:00pm in the Exhibition Hall. 10 high scoring posters will be short listed for the Best Poster Award and will receive a certificate and ribbon. The Best Poster Award winner will receive $500 Visa gift card, certificate and ribbon. Two runners up will each receive a certificate.

Awards will be presented for the Best Film in each category listed below and winners will receive $300 visa gift card, certificate and ribbon.

  • Best Ophthalmic Surgery film
  • Best Non-Surgical Film (research, education, community, sustainability)

All winners will be announced at Congress and published in the RANZCO e-news and Eye2Eye Congress special edition. Winners will be contacted.

Sarks Pathology

The Shirley & John Sarks Prize celebrates excellence in clinicopathological correlation in retinal disease. The Sarks Foundation is offering a $1,000 prize for the best paper or poster covering a retinal clinicopathological topic.
The winner will be notified and funds transferred post Congress.

Travel Grants

The top 3 scoring oral presenters who reside outside of Australia/NZ will each receive $1500 transferred post Congress, certificate and ribbon.

The top scoring abstract (paper or poster) by a Young Ophthalmologist under 40 years will receive $1500 transferred post Congress, certificate and ribbon.

The top scoring abstract (paper or poster) from a low socioeconomic country in Asia or the Pacific (below top 50 ranking GDP countries) will receive $1500 transferred post Congress, certificate and ribbon.

All winners will be announced at the Sunset Poster and Film Festival and published in the RANZCO e-news and Eye2Eye Congress special edition. Winners will be notified.
